Warm and cozy without the caffeine!

Tumeric Latte

This March has been colder than all of the other winter months here in NH and I find myself wanting more and more warming beverages. I also am trying to limit my caffeine intake (confession i LOOOOVE coffee- not even for its caffeine, but just the flavor, the warmth, the everything about it!).

I wish I could say i LOVE tea- and that it gives me the same cozy feeling as my friend coffee- but it doesn’t. Not even close! So, in my efforts to create better habits for overall health, and limiting my go go juice to once a day, I started to experiment with tumeric lattes!

I found the store bought much too sweet, and buying a fresh one from your local barista- a little too pricey for my blood! So I go where I always go in times of curiousity- my KITCHEN!

This wonderful, smooth, cozy beverage will leave you feeling satisfied, and even maybe a little sleepy! And a big bonus, the benefits to many of the ingredients may decrease inflammation in your body, help with insulin sensitivity, get better sleep, and calm an upset tummy! Take that coffee! Ok- I went too far- Coffee- I still do love you…. but you have competition!

Serves 1

Ingredients:

1/4 cup turmeric paste (see below for instructions)

3/4-1 cup milk of your choice (I used almond milk)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp ginger

pinch black or red pepper

1/2 tsp raw honey

Directions:

place all ingredients into sauce pan or frothing machine, heat until warm, but not boiling. If using saucepan, stirring frequently and if you have a battery powered frother use once poured into mug. Enjoy!

Tumeric paste:

1/3 cup tumeric

1 cup filtered water

1/2 cup full fat canned coconut milk

heat all ingredients on stove top in sauce pan until simmering, simmer x 10 min until you have a nice thick consistency, store in glass jar in fridge.
